Specialty Coffee Association Coffee Technician Program

Dependable, fully functioning equipment is critical at every step of the specialty coffee supply chain. The Coffee Technicians Program (CTechP) is designed for those who want to be better prepared to maintain or repair coffee equipment.

Join us at our SCA Certified Training Lab in Dallas, Texas and participate in an intensive, coffee technician course.

Lunch is provided on each day, and of course we will always provide fresh coffee.

Course Duration: 4-1/2 days (32 hours)   

Expected Number of Attendees: up to 6  


Hydraulics Foundation

Identify common espresso machine and batch brewer hydraulic system components.
Describe the fundamental operating principles of brewing and steam hydraulic systems. Describe relevant fundamental principles of hydrodynamics. Demonstrate an awareness of the various hazards associated with working with coffee equipment and recommended procedures for working safely. Demonstrate the safe and appropriate use of various hand tools and hydraulic fittings. Demonstrate successful connection of a coffee machine to a water supply


Electrical Foundation

Identify common espresso machine, batch brewer, and coffee grinder electrical components. Describe the fundamental operating principles of heating element, brewing, and autofill electrical circuits. Describe relevant fundamental principles of electrical circuits. Demonstrate an awareness of the various hazards associated with working with coffee equipment and recommended procedures for working safely.
Demonstrate the safe and appropriate use of various hand tools. Demonstrate safe and appropriate use of electrical testing tools to measure voltage, continuity, and resistance. Demonstrate successful connection of a coffee machine to electricity


Water and Preventative Maintenance Foundation

Identify common water treatment system components. Describe relevant fundamental principles of preventive maintenance programs, water chemistry, and water treatment methods. Demonstrate an awareness of the various hazards associated with working with coffee equipment and recommended procedures for working safely. Demonstrate the safe and appropriate use of various hand tools. Demonstrate simple preventive maintenance steps for a traditional espresso machine, batch brewer, and coffee grinder.
